Assignment 4.1



Chapter 4 Questions 
  1. What is the difference between using technology for professional reasons and integrating technology?
    1. The two are often confused, but using technology for professional reasons includes the resources that the teacher would use in their methods as well as what they will use to create lessons. In contrast the integration of technology would include the activities that are in the classroom that allows or requires the students to interact with technology. 
  2. Describe four main ways that using word processing benefits students. 
    1. Students will be learning/practicing 21st century skills and be acclimated to the digital world. 
    2. They will be engaged in writing activities among many different platforms.
    3. It will encourage collaborative learning among peers. 
    4. The students will be offered authentic assessments provided by the teacher. 
  3. Describe three main ways that word processing can make teachers more productive. 
    1. Communication via a digital media with various forms of classroom materials.
    2. Differentiation in the fact that each teacher can create, personalize and address classroom information specific to his or her classroom. 
    3. Teachers can also continuously improve their professional growth by keeping up with the digital trends. 
  4. Describe the purposes of both (1) copyright laws and (2) fair use guidelines and explain why these are important considerations for teachers when using technology in the classroom.
    1. Copyright laws are put in place to protect and give exclusive rights to the owner of work for a period of time. These laws protect work such as: poetry, movies, video games, videos, plays, paintings, recorded music, etc. Such work is protected to give credit to those who created the work. 
    2. By using fair guidelines, it allows teachers to copy or reproduce work that is copyrighted for educational purposes without having to request the permission of the one who owns the copyright.
