- Name the four major theories of learning and address the following questions for each theory:
- Behaviorist Learning Theory
- Constructivist Learning Theory
- Directed Instruction
- Cognitive Learning Theory
- Briefly describe at least nine major categories that you should consider when differentiating instruction for different types of learners. Explain how technology could be used to provide some form of differentiated instruction in each of these categories. (Ex: Learning Style, Intelligence Preference, etc.)
- Learning Style
- As a teacher, you can provide different assignments to individual students while they work at a computer station. Each child can do the assignment in their preferred learning style, and use different technologies to do so.
- Intelligence Preference
- Every student has their own intelligence level, so the various levels can be addressed with different technology such as graphs or charts while using the computers.
- Gender
- Although it is not always best to separate learning by gender, in many cases girls tend to like assignments that involve communication. You could give assignments like power point presentations or newsletters.
- Culture
- When teaching, it should be considered that not all students have the same readiness of technology.
- ADD/ADHD
- Students who have either of these have a hard time paying attention and staying on task, so a way to help them would be to get headphones so they can focus on their assignments.
- Index of Inclusiveness
- This section of the reading says that as a teacher, you should include representations of many groups in your presentations. It even suggests pulling from you own classroom.
- Universal Design for Learning
- This section recommends providing more materials that what the traditional classroom would have. They give an example of having a podcast to listen to to change things up.
- Grouping Students
- Group presentations are a perfect way to integrate technology into the class curriculum. Many cultures other than our own, such as China, Korea, and Japan emphasize group achievement over individual achievement.
- Assistive Technologies
- In some cases, you will have to adjust for students who have physical disabilities that require them to use assistive technologies. These technologies can include larger fonts, audio, or a larger mouse.
